Learning Copilot is a learning platform for children. We are committed to protecting children's data and complying with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code). ICO registration: [to be added].
What we collect and why
- Account details (parent email) — to create and secure your account and manage billing.
- Child profile(first name, age, year group, a hashed PIN, optional learning needs) — to personalise learning. We store only a first name and never request a child's full name or contact details.
- Learning activity (sessions, progress, anonymised interaction signals) — to adapt content and show progress.
How the AI works
Learning content and tutoring responses are generated with a large language model (Anthropic's Claude). We send the model the current topic and a child's profile context to tailor explanations. We do not store the raw text of AI conversations — our audit log keeps only non-identifying metadata (model used, token counts, and a one-way hash of the prompt). The AI is instructed never to request personal information and to redirect a child to a trusted adult if they raise anything concerning.
How we handle SEN data
Information about a child's special educational needs is special category data and is treated with extra care. It is used only to adapt the learning experience, is visible only to the account holder, and is never used for advertising or shared with third parties.
Data retention
We keep account and learning data while your account is active. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed via cascading deletion. You can export or delete your data at any time from your account settings.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, export, and delete your data, and to restrict or object to processing. Use the data tools on your account settings page, or contact us. Self-service deletion removes all account and child data immediately.
Lawful basis
We process personal data to perform our contract with you (providing the service) and on the basis of consent for optional SEN information, which you can withdraw at any time.
